If you have lost a tooth or teeth it can lead to all sorts of problems and it is best to rectify the situation as soon as you can. Tooth loss can occur as a result of dental decay, gum disease or from a one-off accident affecting the mouth. Having teeth missing can, in simple terms, mean that your mouth is not able to function as well as it ought to with all the teeth present. What’s more, your cheeks can begin to sag inwards giving you the appearance of being older than you are.
A long term restorative solution to tooth loss is to have them replaced using dental implants. Dental implants basically act as a substitute for the root of your lost tooth. Into the implant a replacement tooth can be screwed as the implant is like a socket.
They are made of titanium which naturally fuses with your jaw bone in a process called osseointegration. This means that your replacement tooth is incredibly secure and stable thanks to the durable and light titanium anchor.
Dental implants can support and bridge of replacement teeth or just a single tooth. The procedure involves surgery, usually under local anaesthetic, because an incision has to be made in the gum for the implant to be placed. The success rate of dental implant surgery is extremely high.
If you have lost a tooth or teeth, talk to your City of London dentist today about the various options available to have it or them replaced. You might prefer a less permanent solution such as full or partial dentures but for long-term restorative effectiveness, it is hard to beat dental implants.

So hands up if you know what sleep apnoea is in the city of London? There is a good chance that many of you will not have a clue but it is a very nasty little condition that you may well not know you have until you heart fails you. It is a condition that crop up during your sleep. When you retire at night and go to sleep, your body then starts an automatic process that keeps all your vital organs operating as they should. The mouth and nose take air into the lungs whilst the brain helps to regulate your breathing and in turn, your heart will keep beating to help the blood flow around the body. Now, interfere with either of these and the rest become strained and things like breathing and heart rate become very disjointed. Over a sustained period of time, this can also affect your breathing during the day without you probably noticing it, but which puts extra strain on the heart. People most at risk are the heavy drinkers, the obese, or those who have had some form of damage in their spinal chord. But fixing the problem is not that easy. A dentist can supply you with a breathing apparatus to wear to keep the airways open during sleeping, but the order of the day is a complete lifestyle change and to get yourself fit and healthy to help regulate your breathing and to exercise the heart.

One of the ways you can ensure that you care for your teeth in the city of London is to be aware of what food you are putting into your mouth. For a start, having a good, strong and healthy diet will help to give your immune system support and this will in turn, reflect in the way your teeth grow, in essence, good food equals good teeth. But on the front line that is your mouth itself, certain foods can have more harmful affects on your teeth than others. Citrus fruit juices, although good for your body, can be very acidic on the teeth and burn into the enamel. Stodgy, high-starched foods such as potatoes and other root vegetables adhere strongly in and around the teeth and if not removed, can soon start releasing acids that help the build up of plaque. It is also the same for sugar based foods and drinks and too much of these can lead quickly to tooth decay. You need to find the perfect balance between what you eat and then how you clean your teeth and gums afterwards to ensure these bacteria do not get a foothold in your mouth. A good cup of black or green tea after a meal will help to neutralise the bacteria that forms plaque, as does cranberry juice which also strengthens your gums. It is all about being sensible and no-one is suggesting you can’t have a blow out with a fine curry or a Chinese, but if you know what you are eating, you can tailor your cleaning to remove the residue of such foods with the right techniques.

In days gone by, if you went to your dentist in the city of London, you didn’t really have a lot of options to choose from when having a dental procedure done. Okay, so that may be a little over the top, but technological changes in the dental world now mean that you are more integrated with your dentist and get more of a say in what you would like to have done. There are so many operations involved in dentistry these days that the choices become overwhelming at times. Basic procedures such as having a filling and root canals can be done with a laser if you so choose, that is virtually painless, removing the choice of anaesthetics, but the use of lasers truly come into their own when it comes to the options in cosmetic dentistry. Such things as gum contouring, teeth whitening and dental implants have never been easier thanks to this new technology. Of course, you can still get your teeth into shape using tried and tested methods such as crown placements, veneers and bridges. You really are spoilt for choice with what’s on offer these days so you would be wise to do lots of research beforehand in order to get what is best for you.
